How to Use Thesis Statement Writer

  1. 1Enter your essay topic — for example, 'the role of technology in modern education'.
  2. 2If you already know what you want to argue, put it in 'Your Position / Argument'. Something like 'technology improves engagement but widens inequality' will produce much sharper theses than leaving it blank.
  3. 3Pick the essay type: Argumentative, Expository, Analytical, Persuasive or Compare & Contrast. A thesis for an expository essay should not be arguable in the way an argumentative one must be.
  4. 4Click 'Write Thesis Statements'.
  5. 5Each option comes labelled STRONG, ACCEPTABLE or NEEDS WORK, with a short note on what makes it work or how to fix it. Read the notes — they are more useful than the statements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does it label some of its own suggestions as 'needs work'?

Because seeing a weak thesis next to a strong one, with an explanation of the difference, teaches you more than getting only the good version. The labels are there so you can tell which is which and why.

What makes a thesis statement strong?

It has to be arguable — a statement someone could reasonably disagree with, not a fact or a bare opinion — and it has to be specific enough to be provable in the length you have. The tool applies both tests, and the explanations point at which one a weaker option fails.

Should my thesis preview my main points?

For argumentative and persuasive essays it usually helps, and the options reflect that. For analytical essays a cleaner single claim is often better, since the analysis unfolds rather than being listed upfront.

How long should a thesis statement be?

One or two sentences. Every option here is written to that limit. A thesis running to three or four sentences is generally a sign the claim hasn't been narrowed enough yet.

Can I use one of these word for word?

Check your institution's policy on AI assistance first — many now cover generated text of any length. Beyond that, a thesis you've rewritten in your own words is nearly always better, because you'll be defending it for the rest of the essay.

About Thesis Statement Writer

A thesis statement is the single sentence the rest of the essay has to earn, and it is the hardest sentence to write because it has to be specific and arguable at the same time. The Thesis Statement Writer produces several options for your topic and position, then grades each one.

The grading is the point. Every statement comes back labelled STRONG, ACCEPTABLE or NEEDS WORK with a short explanation of why. Reading four versions of your own argument at different strengths, with the flaw in each weak one named, is a faster way to understand what your marker wants than reading a guide about it.

Filling in the position field changes the output substantially. Without it, the tool has to guess what you think, and produces theses for the most obvious readings of the topic. With it — even roughly worded — it produces statements of the argument you actually intend to make.

Essay type matters more than it looks. An argumentative thesis must be contestable; an expository one must not be. Setting the type wrong produces a statement that reads fine but doesn't fit the assignment. Your input is sent to our own AI server over HTTPS, used once to generate the options, and never stored or used for training.
