How to Use Job Description Writer
- 1Enter the job title and choose the employment type: Full-Time, Part-Time, Contract / Freelance, Internship or Remote.
- 2Add the department and company name.
- 3List the key responsibilities — 'own product roadmap, work with engineering to deliver features, define KPIs, present to stakeholders'.
- 4List the requirements: '5+ years product management, B2B SaaS experience, strong data skills, experience with agile'.
- 5Generate, then cut the requirements list down. This is the single highest-value edit you can make to any job description.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I cut the requirements list?
Because long requirement lists shrink and skew your applicant pool. The well-documented pattern is that candidates from under-represented groups apply only when they meet nearly all listed criteria, while others apply at around 60%. Every 'nice to have' you leave in the essential list costs you applicants you would have wanted.
Does it check for biased language?
It avoids the obvious gendered and exclusionary phrasing, but do not rely on it as a bias check. Read the draft for age-coded terms like 'recent graduate' or 'digital native', physical requirements that are not genuinely essential, and culture wording that describes a demographic rather than a way of working.
Should I include the salary?
Yes where you can. Several jurisdictions now require pay ranges in job adverts, and beyond compliance it reduces wasted interviews on both sides. The tool will not add a range you have not supplied.
Is this a contract of employment?
No. A job description describes the role; the contract sets the legal terms. Do not let job description wording contradict your contract, particularly around duties, location and hours.
Will it match my company's format?
It produces a conventional structure. If you have a house template with EDI statements, benefits boilerplate or specific legal wording, paste the generated content into that rather than replacing it.
About Job Description Writer
The Job Description Writer produces a complete job description from a title, employment type, responsibilities and requirements — structured the way candidates and job boards expect.
The most useful thing you can do with the output is delete from it. Requirement lists grow because everyone with an opinion adds one, and the effect is a smaller and less diverse applicant pool: the evidence on this is consistent, with many candidates self-selecting out unless they meet almost everything listed. Separating genuine essentials from preferences is worth more than any wording improvement.
Describing responsibilities concretely also does more than it looks. 'Own the product roadmap and define KPIs' tells a candidate what their week contains; 'drive product excellence' tells them nothing and attracts applications from people who have not understood the role.
Read the draft for coded language the tool will not catch — 'recent graduate', 'digital native', physical requirements that are not essential — and include a pay range, which several jurisdictions now require in adverts.
