The tool uses the @imgly/background-removal library, which runs a segmentation neural network entirely in your browser via WebAssembly. The model identifies the foreground subject and removes everything else, producing a transparent PNG that you can layer over any background.
The first time you use the tool, the AI model (~40 MB) is downloaded from a CDN and cached by your browser. Every subsequent use is instant — no re-download needed. This architecture means your photos stay completely private: they're processed locally and never transmitted anywhere.
