Making a meme that reads well
The classic meme format is white capital letters with a black outline, one line at the top and one at the bottom. The outline is what keeps the words readable on any picture, light or dark, so leave it on unless your image has a plain, even background. Text is sized as a percentage of the image width, so the same setting looks right on a small screenshot or a large photo, and long lines wrap rather than run off the edge. For a labelled-object meme, add more captions and drag each onto the part of the picture it names.
Keep each line short: a meme is read in a second or two, often on a phone. Put the set-up at the top and the punchline at the bottom. Start from a clear, uncluttered image, ideally one you took yourself or have the right to use. How to Use Meme Generator
- 1Upload a picture from your device, or paste a screenshot straight from the clipboard with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on Mac). JPG, PNG and WebP all work; an animated GIF contributes its first frame.
- 2Pick a layout: Classic (text on the picture), Caption bar (a white bar above it), Two side by side (two pictures with a caption under each) or Two stacked (two pictures, each with a text panel beside it). The two-picture layouts ask for your second picture.

Frequently Asked Questions
What font is used?
Impact, the classic meme font, where your device has it, with similar heavy fonts as fallbacks. Each caption can switch to a sans, serif or script font instead. Capitals are on by default and can be switched off.
Does long text wrap?
Yes. Lines wrap to stay inside the image, and a single very long word is broken rather than cut off at the edge.
Why does the text size use a percentage?
So the text looks the same on any picture: it's sized relative to the image width, not in fixed pixels.
Is there a watermark or signup?
No. The meme is drawn in your browser and downloaded as a plain JPG, free, with no watermark and no account. Your image is never uploaded.
What images can I use?
Any JPG, PNG or WebP, or the first frame of a GIF, uploaded or pasted from the clipboard. Use pictures you took yourself or have permission to use, especially if the meme is for a business or brand account.
Can I put text in the middle of the image?

Are there meme templates?

Can I add stickers or draw on the meme?

What resolution will the downloaded meme be?
The pixel dimensions of the image you uploaded (only very large photos, over about 16 megapixels, are scaled down so phones can draw them). Text is drawn at full resolution, so it stays sharp. If you plan to share widely, start from the largest version of the image you have.
