Frequently Asked Questions
Where do the exchange rates come from?
Rates are fetched from the Open Exchange Rates API (open.er-api.com), which provides free, regularly updated exchange rates based on global forex markets. The timestamp shown indicates when the rates were last updated.
How often are rates updated?
The API updates rates approximately every few hours. They reflect mid-market exchange rates β the midpoint between buy and sell rates. Actual rates at banks and currency exchange offices will differ due to fees and spreads.
Are these rates the same as what my bank charges?
No. These are mid-market (interbank) rates β the best possible rates used for large institutional transactions. Banks and currency exchange services add a markup (typically 1β5%) on top of these rates. Use these rates as a reference point, not as the exact rate you'll receive.
What currencies are supported?
The converter supports 20 major world currencies including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CAD, AUD, CHF, CNY, INR, MXN, BRL, SGD, HKD, and more. These cover the currencies used in most international transactions.

Exchange rates are retrieved from the Open Exchange Rates API, a reliable free service that aggregates rates from global forex markets. The rates displayed are mid-market rates β the midpoint between the rates at which banks buy and sell currencies. These rates are the most objective representation of a currency's value and are used as the reference standard for financial reporting.
The quick reference table converts common round amounts (1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1,000) from the selected source currency simultaneously, giving you an intuitive sense of the exchange rate scale. Click any row to set that amount as your input value for further calculations.
It's important to understand that mid-market rates are a reference benchmark β not necessarily the rate you'll get at a bank, airport exchange, or money transfer service. Most providers add a margin of 1β5% or charge a flat fee. For large transfers, using a dedicated forex service or multi-currency bank account can save significantly compared to high-street bank exchange rates.
