Frequently Asked Questions

Can I edit the existing text in a PDF?

Yes. Choose 'Edit text', click a line (or double-click a paragraph) and type. The old words are deleted from the page itself, and the new ones are written in the PDF's own font, at the same size, position, angle and colour, whenever that font contains every letter you typed. The editor tells you which font it will use before you save.

What if the PDF's font doesn't have a letter I typed?

PDFs usually carry only the letters they use. If you type one the embedded font doesn't have, the edit is written in the closest standard font (Helvetica, Times or Courier) instead, and the editor says so as you type. Right-to-left scripts such as Urdu and Arabic are added as a picture of the text; the old words are still deleted.

Can I edit a whole paragraph?

Yes. Double-click a line, or click 'Whole paragraph', and the editor selects every line of that paragraph. Your new text wraps to the same width and line spacing, and you can set it left, centred, right or justified.

How do I remove sensitive information properly?

Use Redact. Drag a box over the text or picture: when you save, the text under it is deleted from the file (it can't be copied, searched or recovered), pictures wholly inside the box are removed, and a black or white box is drawn in their place. The editor reports anything it could only cover, such as a picture that reaches outside the box.

What's the difference between White-out and Redact?

White-out only paints over the page, so whatever is underneath is still inside the file. Redact deletes it. Use White-out for cosmetic fixes and Redact for passwords, ID and account numbers.

Is added text real text?

Yes. Text you add or edit is saved as real PDF text: sharp at any zoom, selectable and searchable. Shapes and drawings are saved as vector graphics, not as a picture of the page, so the file stays small.

Can I fill in and sign forms?

Yes. Fillable PDF forms show their fields as boxes you can type into, tick or choose from. Add a signature by drawing it with your mouse or finger, or by typing your name in a handwriting font. Tick 'Flatten form' to make the filled form uneditable.

Can I undo a mistake?

Yes. Use the undo and redo buttons, or Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y. 'Restore' puts an edited line back as it was. Select anything you added to move it, resize it from the corner handle, nudge it with the arrow keys, or delete it.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Editing and saving happen in your browser; the PDF never leaves your device.

About PDF Editor

The PDF Editor changes a PDF's own text rather than pasting over it. Click a line or a paragraph and type: the old words are removed from the page's content, everything else on the line stays exactly where it was, and the new words are written in the document's embedded font at the same size, angle and colour whenever that font has the letters. Paragraphs rewrap to their original width and line spacing.

Redact deletes text and pictures under a box before covering it, so confidential details are really gone, not just hidden. You can also add text in Helvetica, Times or Courier, fill and flatten forms, highlight, white-out, draw boxes, circles, lines and freehand ink, tick and cross, and add pictures and signatures. Everything is saved as real text and vector graphics, placed correctly even on rotated or cropped pages.

It runs entirely in your browser, so contracts, applications and statements stay on your device, and it works on phones as well as computers.
